Getting Ready for Jr. High

In our attempt to get ready for jr. high, we spend a great deal of time working on students organization and helping them become more responsible. The following is our 6th grade disclosure statement that we send home at the begining of the year.
Welcome to sixth grade at BGM Elementary! We are looking forward to having a good year. The teachers for sixth grade are Mr. Knight and Mrs. Fiebelkorn. Your child will have their homeroom teacher for all subjects except science is with Mr. Knight and social studies is with Mrs. Fiebelkorn.

We thought it would be a good idea if we sent home our expectations for the coming school year. Our main goal for your child this year is to prepare them for jr.high/high school through proper organization, time management, and responsibility, in addition to our subject areas.

Grading:

The grading scale follows what is in the student handbook.

Respect and Responsibility:

In order to better prepare your child for the expectations at the jr. high and senior high levels, we have implemented a monthly respect and responsibility chart which is kept on each student in each class. Each teacher will mark down times when your child has incomplete or missing homework as well as behavior issues both in and out of the classroom. If, at the end of each month, students have not exceeded the set limit of marks, they will be able to participate in an extra activity. If the student has exceeded the limit, they will be completing unfinished homework or doing review work under the supervision of a teacher. If a student has an excessive amount of marks, detentions will be given.

Late assignments:

Students are expected to complete assignments on time. For first quarter only, if assignments are not completed on time, their score will drop one letter grade the first day it is late, and they will receive a zero if it is not completed the second day. Second through fourth quarters they will receive the score of what was completed on the assignment. All assignments will be completed whether credit is given or not. Students have one day for every day they are absent from school to make up assignments. The students are always responsible for getting any assignments they have missed.
